The CCAC “Acting Up!” theater group in conjuction with the City of Clare Parks and Recreation Department and the Pere Marquette District Library sponsored a 4 week youth theater workshop with a Grand Finale Performance during the Clare Summerfest at Shamrock Park on July 3. The performance was entitled “Growing Up in America.
During the Clare Christmas open house last November, the CCAC theater group “Acting Up” presented the newly formed council in grand style. With a town crier, king, queen, princesses, Romeo and Juliette, and the Grinch they spread holiday cheer and the news that the Arts Council was back in town.
The local artist’s Spare Chair was a success with 40 decorated chairs from artist’s of all ages coming from 8 different cities in the surrounding Clare area. The Spare Chair Fair auction was held at the Doherty Hotel on April 23. The chairs were originally on display at the Pere Marquette libray. The event was sponsored by the Clare County Arts Council and the Pere Marquette Library.
This was made possible by the donation of chairs from Vernon Township. We would also like to thank the public for their support, votes and bids, the Doherty hotel, Sheila Bissonette Pere Marquette-Library Director, and Norm Yoder our volunteer auctioneer who helped us raise $ 2,025.oo. Awards were given to 1st place Kim Gray, Lake, 2nd place Gerry Nalezyty, Farwell, and 3rd place Ashley Stothard, Coleman in the adult category. Winners of the children’s category were 1st place, Jay Defoy, Clare, 2nd place, the Clare High School Art Club, and 3rd place Abby and Madeline Zastrow. Special thanks to all of the artists who participated for their hard work and dedication for truly creating works of art.
Local artist Sandy Doherty taught a “Red Poppies” knife painting class in July. The class was a full day seminar in which all students completed their works of art. It was a day of fun, laughs and learning. You can see Sandy’s paintings on display at the Doherty hotel in Clare, many are for sale. ![]()
The 1st Annual Birthday Bash was held in October at the Doherty Home in Clare. In celebration of the Arts Councils first anniversary everyone was invited to attend with entertainment, refreshments and displays throughout the home with the work of local artists.
